Background of the Study

Student motivation is a key factor that influences academic achievement and engagement. In secondary schools, particularly in Damaturu Local Government Area, Yobe State, many students struggle with low motivation and face challenges in keeping up with the curriculum. Traditional teaching methods may not be sufficiently engaging for all students, leading to disengagement and decreased performance. Personalized learning, which tailors educational content to the individual needs, preferences, and learning styles of students, has been shown to improve motivation by providing students with a sense of autonomy and relevance in their learning.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) offers a promising approach to personalized learning by analyzing student data to identify learning patterns, strengths, and areas for improvement. AI-driven systems can adapt content in real-time, providing personalized recommendations, feedback, and resources that cater to the unique needs of each student. In Damaturu Local Government Area, Yobe State, students in secondary schools often experience a lack of motivation in their studies, which affects their academic performance. The absence of personalized learning approaches and the reliance on traditional one-size-fits-all teaching methods may contribute to students' disengagement and academic struggles.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To assess the current level of student motivation in secondary schools in Damaturu Local Government Area.

  2. To design and implement an AI-based personalized learning system for secondary schools.

  3. To evaluate the impact of the AI-based system on student motivation and academic performance.

Significance of the Study

The study will focus on secondary schools in Damaturu Local Government Area, Yobe State. The design and implementation of the AI-based personalized learning system will be the primary focus, with limitations including the availability of technology and the adaptability of students to new learning methods.
